INDONESIAN VOICE, JEMBER – The wave of support for Muhammad Fawait (Gus Fawait) as the Regent of Jember continues to grow. The latest support came from farmers in Jember who are members of the Indonesian Cattle and Buffalo Farmers Association (PPSKI).
The Chairman of PPSKI, Hermawan Widibya, said there were several reasons why farmers in Jember solidified their support for Gus Fawait. One of them is the underutilization of the livestock potential in Jember to the maximum in the current era of government.
However, he said, nationally, Jember is a livestock center, especially for cattle. “Nationally, Jember ranks third among regencies for livestock. But so far, that potential has not been optimally utilized,” he told Suaraindonesia.co.id, Wednesday (17/7/2024).
Based on this issue, PPSKI declared its support for Gus Fawait through a declaration forum at the house of one of PPSKI’s foster farmers in Grenden Village, Puger District, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
“Furthermore, up until now, the assistance for cattle has never reached the rightful recipients. When Gus Fawait becomes regent, we want the livestock assistance to be on target. Indeed, received by those who are entitled,” said this veterinary doctor, an alumnus of Airlangga University (Unair), Surabaya.
The livestock activist in Jember since 1992 admitted that during the declaration of support, there were no specific agreements or deals with Gus Fawait. His party only conveyed that if the Gerindra Party politician is elected, farmers want to contribute more to advance the livestock industry in the local regency.
“Moreover, the elected President of RI, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, has proposed free milk for improving the nutritional quality of school children. We want to contribute and oversee the program to ensure it reaches the right target,” he concluded. (*)
